I heard about Sihanouk Hospital Center of Hope (SHCH) from prior residents who visited from my hospital and had great experiences. I spent about three (3) weeks at the SHCH and it was gratifying and educational experience.
I saw many interesting cases and have a new appreciation for the resources we have in the United States. The patients are very courteous and compliant, despite often being in poor health but the staff was very polite and helpful. I will definitely and hopefully to come back to volunteer at SHCH again within the next 2 or 3 years.
What I would like to tell my friends about SHCH is that “Once in a lifetime experience, Cambodia is a wonderful country with a lot to offer! Cambodia and SHCH offers the experience we all sought going into medicine, providing care to the extremely sick and needy. It has touched and saved so many lives, and helped me redefine why I went into medicine”.
