Dr. Margo Hudson, a Diabetes Doctor From USA

Updated: Nov 7, 2021

“I heard about the Sihanouk Hospital Center of Hope (SHCH) from Health Volunteers Overseas (HVO). I first came to volunteer at Sihanouk Hospital in 2013 and again in January 2015.

From my idea, Dr. Rin and Dr. Kruy are compassionate, knowledgeable and dedicated to their work. The training physicians are eager to learn and very enthusiastic and appreciative of my teaching efforts. There is a wide range of patients with far advanced stages of disease that are uncommon in the US. It is a wonderful experience! I worked hard with Ellen Maling at my second visit on creating the start of a formal diabetes program at Sihanouk Hospital and hopefully, this will come to fruition. I will come back again in 1 or 2 years.

I want to tell my friends that volunteering at Sihanouk Hospital is rewarding on so many levels and educational as well for the volunteers because of the exposure to new diseases and advanced complications of diseases. Volunteers will learn to be creative in their approach to diagnosis and management, given the more limited resources available compared to the US. Volunteers will come away knowing that they have made a contribution to health care in Cambodia. Sihanouk Hospital is an excellent teaching facility caring for the poorest people of Cambodia with compassion and dedication and making the most of every dollar contributed by generous donors.”
