Commuting can be a dangerous proposition for the many workers who work in Phnom Penh and live in rural villages on its outskirts. According to WHO, Cambodia has a very high rate of road traffic accidents. Van Da, a 29-year-old father and husband, lives alone in a small rented room in Phnom Penh while working weekdays as a factory worker. He earns $125 a month. Each Friday evening loads his motorbike with goods that he re-sells in the village for extra funds and returns to town on Sunday evening.

One evening, while crossing the road at his home in Kandal, he was struck by a speeding vehicle. Both of his legs were severely injured. His wife had heard of Sihanouk Hospital Center of Hope (SHCH) and brought him here immediately in a tuk-tuk, a bumpy ride with much pain. Our team performed a CT Scan at the HOPE worldwide Medical Center, which determined that he hadn't suffered a head injury. However, both legs were broken.

SHCH surgeons repaired his injuries, and he recovered for three (3) weeks at the surgical ward. He said, "SHCH is a good hospital for the poor with great service to the patients too. I want to say thank you very much to the doctors and staff here. They are very friendly to the patients."– Van Da
